CNC POLYMER MACHINING: SLOTTED STEPPED BUSHING
High-precision turn-mill machining of engineered plastics (Caprolon, PTFE, Polyamide) on CNC machinery in Dnipro.
Engineering Process & Technical Solutions:
The primary engineering goal in producing this component from engineered polymers was to guarantee rigid concentricity between the inner and outer diameters, combined with precise milling of the end-face locating slots. The specific nature of machining plastics demands tight thermal regulation to completely eliminate material warping.
- 1. CAM PROGRAMMING & MULTI-AXIS SETUP To minimize dimensional stacking errors, the part is manufactured in a unified turn-mill setup. Spindle indexing and cross-toolpaths were engineered to execute both the cylindrical profiling and slot cutting sequentially without un-clamping the stock.
- 2. CNC TURNING & GEOMETRY VERIFICATION Initial stock reduction was carried out via lathe operations. Due to the inherent elasticity of industrial polymers, custom razor-sharp tooling insert geometries were deployed, ensuring flawless shearing of the chip web without structural deformation or wall-pulling effects.
- 3. PRECISION END-FACE SLOT MILLING The twin rectangular locating slots on the face of the bushing were machined utilizing synchronized live tooling. Perfect axial symmetry and flank parallelism relative to the center bore line were achieved via precise CNC coordinate positioning.
- 4. CLEAN FINISHING PASS: ZERO BURRS OR FURRING Polymers tend to develop edge furring or stringy burrs when subjected to friction-induced overheating. Through optimized feeds and high RPM clipping parameters, all intersecting edges emerged perfectly sharp, removing any need for secondary manual deburring.
- 5. BATCH REPEATABILITY & IN-PROCESS INSPECTION Every component from the production queue is subjected to rigorous dimensional tracking via calipers and micrometers. Maximum stability of the machine-fixture-workpiece chain guarantees 100% part-to-part consistency.
